Eastern Sun Rises uses the D2SE mod manager; this means that you need D2SE up and running before you can proceed with installing Eastern Sun Rises. You can find information on how to install D2SE here; this includes a download link too. Please note that you need Diablo 2 version 1.13 or lower before installing D2SE.
Installing Eastern Sun Rises[]
Once D2SE is running, you simply download the latest version of ESR, which is always available on the Discord Server. Simply unpack the archive into your MODS folder. Please make sure that you don't accidentally create double sub-directories like MODS\ESR X.Y\ESR X.Y\ because the mod will not show up in the list if that happens.Step 1: Download all the things!
For the installation, you need a Diablo II: Lord of Destruction Installation of Version 1.13 or lower! The installation of D2SE will work on 1.14, but you won't be able to play mods without problems! If you still have your CDs, or at least ISOs, you can simply install Diablo II and its expansion pack Lord of Destruction, and you will end up with a clean installation with version 1.07 - this is perfectly fine for installing D2SE! The Battle.net installation will not work. If you don't have access to CDs or ISOs or a clean older installation, you can download a copy of 1.13 here.
Quick Guide (if you know what you are doing)[]
- Get a working installation of D2SE, if you don't have one:
- Get a clean installation of Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction version 1.07 - 1.13, 1.14 WILL NOT WORK
- Install D2SE
- Download and unpack ESR into the MODS folder. You might have to confirm the download because it's an external link from an unknown domain!
- Have Fun!
Detailed Step-by-Step Installation Guide (by Enki)[]
Step 1: Download Links[]
- D2 1.13c download link: ESR Server
- Download an install these two Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables for all the DLLs to work. Note that both downloads have the same file name, but they are two different versions! Install them both.
- Then Download D2SE
- Finally, Download Eastern Sun Rises. You might have to confirm the download because it's an external link from an unknown domain!
Step2: Unpack and Install[]
NOTE: Make sure you are NOT running version 1.14 (the Blizzard download) or it WILL NOT WORK!
- Get your key from Blizzard or the Box, as you will need it to install.
- If using the download of 1.13 above: Install the Original installer first
- If using the download of 1.13 above: Then install the Expansion installer
- If using the download of 1.13 above: Then install LODPatch 1.13d.exe
- Install vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x86(1).exe (if prompted to repair then you already have it)
- Now install D2SE_V2.2.0PK.exe into the same directory as D2
- Unzip the contents of ESR 5.2D3.zip into your Diablo 2\MODS folder (for me the path looks like D:\Diablo II\MODS\ESR 5.2D3 when completed)
Step 3: Compatiblity mode settings[]
Set the following files to Windows XP SP3 Compatibility mode in the Diablo 2 install directory: TODO: Add Screenshots to lead people through this process.
- D2SE.exe
- D2VidTst.exe
- Diablo II.exe
- Game.exe
Step 4: Configuration Settings[]
Glide Configuration (only required if not using D2DX):
- Run D2SE from the desktop shortcut.
- Click the "Configure Glide" button in the upper right.
- Set the settings per the readme built in; if you aren't sure, ask around, but these settings depend on your hardware to an extent.
- Click the Test button within Glide configuration to make sure it works. Click quit to go back to D2SE.
- Click the D2VidTest button and let it test. It shoud recommend using Glide, and that's what you want; these settings should also be reflected in D2SE.
Step 4a: Single Player (non realm) Setup and Modifications[]
Gamble Filter (see below for latest):
Download, unblock, and unzip this into the ESR folder under the MODS folder in your install (see step 3.g. above) and start the mod. If you have issues with default version of PlugY,
If this doesn't work for you, copy the following file to your Mod folder: <Diablo II install folder>\D2SE\CORES\1.09d\PlugY.dll where <Diablo II Install Folder> is the directory where you installed Diablo 2 (see step 1.b)
Step 5b: Realm (custom Battle.Net) Setup and Modifications[]
Make sure that PlugY checkbox is unchecked for realm play, because it will block the Battle.net button when active. If you have issues connecting to realm, download, unblock, and run the D2ESR.reg file (see below) choosing to import to registry the required changes.
Step 6: Play![]
- Run D2SE
- Scroll to the bottom of the list NOTE: If you need additional settings/checkboxes selected from one of the prior steps, this is where you do that.
- Locate "Eastern Sun Rises 5.2" under "1.13c LOD Vanilla"
- Either double click "Eastern Sun Rises 5.2D", or click it once then click "StartPlugin" up at the top. If you want to use the gamble filter, make sure -direct and -txt are checked in D2SE
